UPDATE: BBC Named Guest Speaker
Every company has an employer value proposition, whether they realise it or not. The major issue most companies have is how to differentiate their EVP from their competitors. Check out this video from Facebook.
How much do you want to work for Facebook now? And why? Because very quickly, they’ve outlined part of their EVP and clearly differentiated themselves from their competitors:
“You actually get to do what you talk about in very other company and start-up.”
“The company is large enough for you to come in and experiment with things”
“We have a handful of engineers”
“Engineers have low friction to start an idea”
“People getting in now are on the ground floor and shape the direction this is going in”
(Thanks to @mattalder)
Pretty clear right? It’s also not oversold and doesn’t become cheesy in anyway, like a lot of recruitment videos can. OK, not every company are Facebook, Apple or Google, but as an employer, you will do something different for the people that work there, and it’s about communicating that through your corporate site, advertising, social media, what your employees say, your PR and so on. It’s about the packaging reflecting the content, but if you’re not a very good employer in the first place, you issues run deeper than your EVP!
A great EVP, communicated well, makes you a talent magnet, and this can save a business money in so many ways, I’ll leave you to figure them all out, but imagine if the best talent in your market woke up every morning and wanted to work for your business. What would that mean to you and your bottom line?
On the 16th August, we are hosting the first #rcnvs EVP colloquy. In the usual Reconverse format, employers will get a chance to meet new suppliers that can help build and communicate their employer value proposition. The over lunch, our guest speakers will give a few short presentations on the market from different viewpoints. The round table them opens up (for in-house recruiters only) and the conversation then builds until we have 3-5 great points to share with the world. All followed by a few drinks afterwards.
This event is free for in-house recruiters with paid for tables available for suppliers.
Yeah, the magical kingdom that is Facebook. Looks like propaganda to me.
I also disagree with the “it’s not cheesy” comment too.
Do you think that behind all those hammocks and video arcades they have rows on rows of small children creating code, chained from the necks?
Great article
